A 38-year-old man has died of a heart attack while boarding a flight at Auckland International Airport.
The
man collapsed on board Air New Zealand flight NZ56 to Nadi, Fiji, about
9am on Sunday and was worked on by an experienced off-duty paramedic
who happened to be on the same flight.
"She worked extremely hard,
using a defibrillator on the aircraft to administer shocks to the
patient," St John northern communications team manager Norm Ngatai told
NZ Newswire.
"She had all the right equipment at the right time but unfortunately the outcome wasn't good."
He said the man had an "extensive cardiac history".
Details of the man's nationality have not been released.
Police said the death has been referred to the coroner.
