Two people were shot and injured at a US naval base on Thursday,
navy officials said. Officials said a suspect had been taken into
custody following the incident in Millington, Tennessee.
Neither victim suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident, which took place at Naval Support Activity Midsouth in Millington, around 10 miles north of Memphis in the south-western part of the state. The naval base was placed on lockdown following the incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon.
Photos sent to the local News 14 television station showed police crime-scene tape and several medics attending.
The incident comes just over a month after a shooting at a navy base in Washington DC that left 13 people dead, including the gunman.
A reporter for a local news station, WREG News Channel 3, said eyewitnesses reported seeing police apprehend a "white male in uniform". Witnesses reported seeing injured men wearing bloodied uniforms.
A Memphis resident, Wendi Thomas, tweeted that a shelter-in-place warning extended to the golf course on the naval base. She and others sheltered in the clubhouse on the golf course until the order was lifted at around 2.40pm.
According to the navy's website, the base serves as a "human resources centre of excellence". More than 7,500 military, civilian and contract personnel work at the base.Copy http://www.theguardian.com/uk
