BREAKING Emergency services alerted after the light aircraft was reported overdue
Police confirmed that communication was lost with the light aircraft when it was around four miles west of the airport.
Weather in the area was extremely poor at the time the plane went missing, with heavy rain and high speed winds in the area.
A coastguard spokesman confirmed that “we are searching the whole of the River Tay, concentrating on the west side of Dundee”.
Police Scotland said: “We are dealing with an ongoing incident involving an overdue light aircraft that was due to land at Dundee airport around midday Sunday, 3 May.
“Emergency services including the coastguard and the RAF have been informed and are providing assistance.
“Communication with the aircraft was lost around four miles away from the airport and the aircraft has yet to be traced.”
The incident comes in the wake of a crash one month ago, involving David Rous and his wife Margaret Ann, of Newport-on-Tay.
The couple were flying from Dundee to spend a weekend with family when their PA28 Piper Cherokee light aircraft crashed into the Argyll hillside.
