SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea has aired footage showing a stream of wailing people paying their final respects to late leader Kim Jong Il.
The country's state TV broadcast the footage on Wednesday before a state funeral for Kim is scheduled to take place. Kim died of a heart attack on Dec. 17.
The footage showed uniformed soldiers and citizens clad in black suits or Korean traditional dress sobbing before the bier bearing Kim's body at Kumsusan Memorial Palace in Pyongyang.
Kim's youngest son and successor Kim Jong Un has rapidly gained prominence following his father's death.
State media say Kim Jong Un and top party and military officials paid their respects at the memorial palace again on Tuesday. It's the son's fifth time since his father's death.
