USA China announces Xi's US visit for first meeting with Donald Trump
The
Chinese president will visit the United States on April 6 and 7 for
his first meeting with his American counterpart, Beijing said
Thursday.
Xi
Jinping will meet Donald Trump at the latter's private residence in
Mar-a-Lago in Florida, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang
said at a press conference.
The
leaders are expected to discuss bilateral commercial relations and
how to make way for a more balanced trade between the two world
powers.
Trump
has often accused China of robbing the US of its jobs and even
manipulating its currency Yuan to favor its exports.
With
regard to tensions on bilateral trade, Lu said 40 percent of China's
trade surplus with the US is created by American firms in China, and
added bilateral trade has also created "2.6 million jobs in the
US".
"China
and the US are highly complementary" and possess a "highly
integrated degree of interests," Lu stressed.
Unconfirmed
reports regarding the possibility of a meeting between the two
presidents have been doing the rounds for weeks now.
Xi's
US trip will also include a layover in Finland on April 4 and 5.
